Description
OverviewFred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.
The Bloom lab (https://jbloomlab.org/) has an opening for a Research Technician to help with their studies of viral evolution and its effect on countermeasures. The technician will be expected to spend about one-third of their time on general lab management / support, and the other two-thirds working on a specific scientific project that will initially be focused around how viral mutations might impact antibody prophylactics against RSV. The role will require scientific curiosity and enthusiasm, a desire to learn and apply new techniques, a willingness to work with other lab members, good communication skills, and the ability to help support the lab operations generally.
We will consider applicants with a wide range of prior experience levels if they can provide a case why they would be a good fit for our lab and project. You can strengthen your application by providing a cover letter that describes in detail your interests, background, and career goals specific to our lab and the role described above. The more you can make your cover letter demonstrate some interest specific to our lab's projects, the more likely your application is to stand out. Also please include a CV describing your training and any prior research and biology background, as well as providing contact information for at least two references.
The successful applicant should at minimum have BA or BS in a science-related field and/or several years of prior experience working in molecular biology. If your experience level either is less or more than that, we will still consider your application if your cover letter convincingly explains why you are a good fit.
A cover letter and CV are required in order to be considered for the position.
